I'd also be interested to hear the reply. We use ML as the preconditioner to BiCGStab for the Poisson problem in Cartesian coordinates, but we have similar slow convergence - presumably for the same reason - when the finite volume cells have large aspect ratios.

In this case, the coefficients of the operator
vary dramatically, as the operator in the radial
direction is
(1/r)(d/dr)(r d/dr) = d^2/dr^2 + (1/r)(d/dr)
We try plain ol' ML and convergence is slow,
like 80 iterations.
Are there suggestions for this?
