I just back-ported the fix into the 12.2 release branch.  It may take a little while for the next tarball to show up.  Until then, you could either use your patch or cherry-pick from Trilinos public git repository (the commit should show up there in a day or two).

I guess I am fine as long as it is fixed in the next release (12.2.2 or 12.3, i don't know what's your release strategy).
For the current 12.2.1 i already have this patch which makes it work.

Releases 12.2.x are patches / bug fixes of the minor release 12.2.  Thus, I would need to backport the fix from the master (development) branch to the 12.2 release branch.

When you download a tarball of the 12.2 release, it's always the latest patch / bug fix 12.2.x.
