[Trilinos-Users] static vs shared

Hi,

We've always built trilinos as a static lib, but someone
asked about building as a shared lib, e.g,
    -D BUILD_SHARED_LIBS:BOOL=ON

Is there any reason not to do this, i.e, are we likely
to take any significant performance hits?
