In the CMakeCache.txt file I have the following lines:

//Enable support for the TPL MF in all supported Trilinos packages.
//  This can be set to 'ON', 'OFF', or left empty ''.
TPL_ENABLE_MF:STRING=


and then:

//STRINGS property for variable: TPL_ENABLE_MF
TPL_ENABLE_MF-STRINGS:INTERNAL=;ON;OFF
